Pakistan Gets Second Qatar LNG Cargo as Spot Gas Prices Hit $30

An LNG carrier at sea

Pakistan has received its second liquefied natural gas (LNG) cargo from Qatar this month under a long-term supply agreement, as prices on the international spot market climb toward $30 per million British thermal units. The LNG carrier EJNAN arrived from Qatar and berthed at the Pakistan GasPort Terminal on October 20, according to terminal officials; the first Qatari cargo of October arrived at the Engro Elengy Terminal on October 13.

Ministry of Energy sources say gas from the contracted Qatari shipments costs around $14 to $15 per MMBtu — roughly half the spot-market price — giving Pakistan a major cushion as it manages its energy import bill. That discount matters at a time when global LNG prices are elevated by Middle East tensions and supply disruptions.

Even so, Pakistan’s LNG imports are running well below last year: two Qatari cargoes in October compared with eight in the same month of 2025, according to figures attributed to the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority. The drop reflects disrupted supplies across the region, and highlights how dependent the country remains on its long-term Qatari contracts while spot-market gas grows more expensive and less certain.
