Pakistan Rejects Afghan Taliban Claims as 'Diversionary', Demands Action on Terror Groups

Pakistan Rejects Afghan Taliban Claims as

Pakistan has rejected the Afghan Taliban administration's claim that Afghanistan neither has the capacity nor the intention to destabilise Pakistan, calling the remarks "diversionary" and urging Kabul to act against terrorist groups operating from its soil. The statement from Pakistan's Ministry of Information and Broadcasting was issued on Saturday, according to a report in The News.

"Pakistan's concerns are not based on conjecture," the ministry said, pointing to assessments by the United Nations and the United States on the presence and activities of terrorist groups in Afghanistan. It said a US report found that the Afghan Taliban continued to allow the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) to operate from Afghan territory, estimating the group has between 4,000 and 6,000 fighters, and that this support had contributed to a rise in attacks against Pakistan.

Islamabad maintained that blaming Pakistani security agencies would not absolve Kabul of its responsibility to prevent Afghan territory from being used for attacks. The ministry added that repeated attempts by armed militants to infiltrate across the Pakistan-Afghanistan border warranted serious scrutiny, and that Kabul's assurances did not address the substantive security concerns Pakistan has raised.
