Pakistan Rejects Afghan Taliban's Claims as 'Diversionary', Demands Action Against Terrorist Groups

Pakistan has rejected the Afghan Taliban administration's claim that Afghanistan neither has the capacity nor the intention to destabilise Pakistan, calling the remarks diversionary and demanding action against terrorist groups operating from Afghan soil. In a statement issued on Saturday, Pakistan's Ministry of Information and Broadcasting said blaming Pakistani security agencies would not absolve Kabul of its responsibility to stop its territory being used for attacks on Pakistan.
The ministry pointed to assessments by the United Nations and the United States, saying a US report found the Taliban continued to allow the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) to operate from Afghan territory, with an estimated 4,000 to 6,000 fighters. It said the group's greater freedom under Taliban rule had contributed to a rise in attacks against Pakistan, and that repeated militant attempts to infiltrate across the border deserved serious scrutiny.
The exchange underlines how strained the relationship has become despite ongoing diplomacy, including a Pakistan delegation's recent talks with the Taliban in Istanbul. Islamabad says its concerns are not based on conjecture but on documented militant activity, and it wants Kabul to move from denials to concrete steps against the groups it says are launching attacks from across the border.
