Pakistan Rejects Taliban Claims of Civilian Casualties, Vows to Defend Against Terrorism

Pakistan on Monday rejected allegations by Afghanistan's Taliban government that its counterterrorism operations caused civilian casualties, calling the claims unfounded and unverified. The Foreign Ministry said Pakistan has every right to defend itself against terrorist attacks targeting its citizens and security forces, and that it will continue to take the measures needed to protect its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Islamabad accused militant groups operating from Afghan territory of threatening regional stability, and urged the Taliban government to stop Afghan soil from being used to plan and launch attacks into Pakistan. According to the ministry, more than 3,500 casualties resulted from such attacks in 2026, citing reports from relevant United Nations bodies and monitoring teams on the presence of militant organisations in Afghanistan.
The exchange adds fresh strain to an already tense relationship between the two neighbours, with both sides giving conflicting accounts of cross-border security operations. Pakistani officials said misleading claims cannot hide the threat posed by militant networks, and called on the international community to hold the Taliban government accountable for preventing cross-border terrorism.
