Pakistan Reopens Gabd-Rimdan Border With Iran After Week-Long Closure

Pakistan has reopened its key Gabd-Rimdan border crossing with Iran, resuming trade and cross-border movement after a week-long suspension that stranded freight vehicles and worsened a cooking-gas shortage ahead of winter. Trade operations resumed on Saturday at the crossing in Balochistan's Gwadar district, also known as Gate 250, with officials allowing commercial consignments carrying notes dated October 16 or earlier to cross.
Mir Naveed Jan Kalmati, president of the Gwadar Chamber of Commerce and Industry, confirmed the reopening and said it would bring immediate relief to traders and transporters stranded on both sides. He added that the restored supply chain should ease a nationwide LPG shortage and help bring down soaring energy and food prices.
Pakistan's commerce ministry had closed the border on October 17, without giving a reason, though the suspension was believed to be linked to security concerns. The closure turned dangerous on Thursday, when unidentified gunmen attacked parked freight vehicles near the crossing, setting dozens of trucks ablaze. The reopening followed a review of the security situation, with additional forces deployed to protect trade convoys along the 909-km Pakistan-Iran border.
