Pakistan Reopens Gabd-Rimdan Border Crossing With Iran After Week-Long Closure

Pakistan has reopened the Gabd-Rimdan border crossing with Iran after a week-long suspension of trade, bringing relief to traders and transporters stranded on both sides of the frontier. Trade resumed on Saturday at the crossing in Balochistan's Gwadar district, also known as Gate 250, which had been closed since October 17.
Border officials are allowing commercial consignments accompanied by notes dated October 16 or earlier to cross, and the reopening is expected to ease supplies of liquefied petroleum gas and essential food items as demand rises ahead of winter. Mir Naveed Jan Kalmati, president of the Gwadar Chamber of Commerce and Industry, confirmed the reopening and said it would give immediate relief to traders stuck on both sides.
The closure turned dangerous last week when unidentified gunmen attacked freight vehicles stranded near the crossing on Thursday, setting dozens of trucks on fire. Local administrators reviewed security before reopening and deployed extra forces to protect trade convoys. Pakistan and Iran share a 909-kilometre border, and officials say a return to fully normal operations will depend on the security situation and further administrative decisions.
