PM Shehbaz Announces Rs160 Billion Development Package for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has announced a Rs160 billion development package for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, pledging fast-track development and lasting peace for the province's terrorism-affected districts. He made the announcement on Thursday while chairing a Federal Apex Committee meeting at the Governor's House in Peshawar, attended by Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, KP Governor Faisal Karim Kundi and senior federal ministers.

Addressing tribal district representatives, the prime minister said the federal government stood with the people of the province and would provide full support for development projects, with a focus on infrastructure, education and healthcare. He directed the governor and chief secretary to ensure the province receives all the wheat it needs at the federal government's price, warning against hoarding, and promised stronger police training, a better-equipped Counter Terrorism Department and the completion of Safe City projects.

Sharif defended the constitutional measures taken in the province, including emergency and governor's rule, as a necessity amid a deteriorating law-and-order situation, and said the federal government would remove obstacles to ongoing federal projects. He also raised corruption claims against the previous provincial government, citing a Rs100 billion drinking water project and a Rs37 billion Kohistan case, and said an advisory council of experts had been formed to help solve the province's problems. Further details on specific projects and timelines are expected in upcoming meetings.
