PSL Mulls Six-A-Side "HBL PSL Sixes" Off-Season Tournament, CEO Reveals

The Pakistan Super League is considering adding a brand-new tournament to its framework, with chief executive Salman Naseer revealing on Thursday that it could take the form of a six-a-side competition loosely modelled on the Hong Kong Sixes.
“Nothing is finalised but there are some exciting plans, and one of them is a sixes tournament, called the HBL PSL Sixes, which will be in the off-season,” Naseer said on a PSL podcast episode released ahead of the league's governing council meeting. The idea follows September talks where the PCB floated adding a mid-year event within the current rights agreement to create another revenue stream.
Naseer said a shorter, smaller event requiring minimal logistics could be the perfect vehicle to take the league into Pakistan's smaller cities, where fans are hungry to watch live cricket. Since moving entirely to Pakistan in 2020, the PSL has been played at just four venues: Karachi, Lahore, Multan and Rawalpindi.
The biggest challenge will be finding a window in the crowded calendar when foreign players are available — especially with next year's PSL clashing with the IPL for the third year running.
