Punjab Bans 20kg Flour Bags — Only 10kg Bags to Be Sold, Maryam Nawaz Orders Smuggling Crackdown

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has permanently banned the sale of 20kg flour bags across the province — only 10kg bags will be sold going forward. The decision was taken at a video-link meeting with commissioners and deputy commissioners on October 23, with the stated aim of curbing wheat and flour smuggling and improving supply tracking.

The chief minister ordered strict surveillance of inter-provincial borders against illegal wheat and flour transportation, and directed all deputy commissioners to meet wheat-sowing targets, including government-owned land and land under schemes like Numberdar, Ghori Pal, and Apna Khet, Apna Rozgar. Officials briefed that prices of 10 food items kept falling while most food and pulse prices remained stable.

The meeting also approved a fruit and vegetable dehydration project under PAMRA for the off-season, the Transforming Market Waste into Wealth initiative, and fast-tracking of Punjab's first Mandi Mart in Kahna. With Ramazan ahead, controlled-price stocks of bananas, apples, and dates will be maintained with cold storage, alongside regulation of loose milk sales and an upgrade to the Price App.
