Rockets vs Mavericks 128-110: Cooper Flagg Sets NBA Teen Season-Opener Record With 32 Points

Cooper Flagg sets NBA teen season-opener scoring record

Dallas Mavericks star Cooper Flagg has set a new NBA record, scoring 32 points in a season opener — the most ever by a teenager in league history.

The Houston Rockets beat the Dallas Mavericks 128-110 on opening night, blowing the game open with a 38-12 second quarter and leading by as many as 37. But the night belonged to Flagg. The 19-year-old shot 10-of-17 from the field and 11-of-13 from the free-throw line, adding 5 rebounds, 3 steals, 2 assists and a block in nearly 33 minutes of action. His 32 points broke Lamar Odom's 30-point mark set on his debut back in 1999.

Flagg, who was named the 2025-26 NBA Rookie of the Year, continues to live up to the hype as one of the league's most-watched young stars. For Houston, Kevin Durant and Jabari Smith Jr. each poured in 30 points as the Rockets announced themselves as early contenders. Dallas will take heart from their rookie's historic night even in defeat, as Flagg showed exactly why he is considered the future of the franchise — and possibly the league.
