Russian Drone Strike Kills at Least 14 at Dnipro Railway Station

A Russian drone strike killed at least 14 people on a crowded railway platform in the Ukrainian city of Dnipro on Thursday, officials said, in one of the deadliest single attacks on the country's passenger rail network this year. State railway operator Ukrzaliznytsia said a jet-powered drone hit the platform at Dnipro's main station while commuter train No. 866 was preparing to depart for the nearby city of Zaporizhzhia. Regional governor Oleksandr Hanzha confirmed the death toll, with at least five more people wounded, and rescuers rushed to the scene.
The Dnipro strike was part of a wider wave of daytime attacks across Ukraine. Two teenagers were killed and 23 people wounded in a drone attack on a busy central street in Chernihiv in the north, while three people were killed and 15 wounded when a strike hit an apartment building in the central city of Kremenchuk. Ukraine's prime minister accused Russia of deliberately hunting civilians, saying there could be no justification for such attacks. Moscow denies deliberately targeting civilians.
The violence came even as a six-day humanitarian truce brokered with US help raised cautious hopes for diplomacy. Moscow has made clear that truce applies only to the Kherson region in the south, to let relief reach the Russian-held town of Oleshky. Elsewhere, Russian attacks on critical infrastructure, including the rail network, have made daily life increasingly dangerous and strained Ukraine's economy, exploiting an acute shortage of air-defence missiles. Zelenskyy urged partners to put more pressure on Russia.
