Russian Drone Strike on Ukrainian Park Kills Six, Including Children

A Russian drone strike on a public park in the Kharkiv region of Ukraine has killed six people, including children, and injured 15 others, seven of them children, local officials said. The attack on Monday afternoon hit the central park of Nova Vodolaha, a small town about 50 kilometres from Kharkiv, while families with children were enjoying the day. Investigators say a Geran-3 drone was used in the strike, which also damaged a nearby cafe and destroyed playground equipment. Police photos from the scene show a burnt-out stroller and splintered park structures.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned the attack as a "pure atrocity", revealing that one of the youngest victims was a girl named Anhelina, just over a year old, who died alongside her mother Inna. An 11-year-old girl was also among those killed. Ukraine's Interior Minister said there was no military infrastructure anywhere near the site, calling the strike a terrorist act, and the prosecutor's office has opened a war-crime investigation. The attack comes as UN monitors report civilian casualties in Ukraine have surged 85 percent in September compared with last year, warning that the first two weeks of October were among the deadliest periods for civilians in years.
