Saim Ayub Released From Pakistan ODI Squad as Pakistan Prepare for Sri Lanka Clash

The Pakistan Cricket Board has confirmed that opening batter Saim Ayub has been released from the men's ODI squad for the remainder of the ongoing tri-series, after he asked to return to domestic cricket to work on his batting form. The 24-year-old left-hander managed scores of 6, 8 and 7 in his three innings in the tournament.

After a conversation with head coach Mike Hesson, Saim said he wanted to step back to rebuild his confidence, and the team management and selection committee agreed to his request. The selectors have named Sahibzada Farhan, the newly appointed T20I captain who was originally not picked for the tri-series, as his replacement.

Pakistan have already qualified for the final after winning their first three matches. They beat Sri Lanka by 37 runs in Rawalpindi, beat England by 87 runs, and then pulled off a stunning one-wicket win over England in Lahore, chasing 242 thanks to Shadab Khan's unbeaten 113 off 96 balls. Pakistan face Sri Lanka again at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore on Tuesday, October 27, before the final on October 31.
