Samsung Q3 Profit Jumps Nearly Ninefold to Record $80 Billion on AI Chip Boom

Samsung Electronics has confirmed a record third-quarter operating profit of 107.4 trillion won — about $80 billion — nearly nine times the 12.2 trillion won it earned a year earlier, as booming demand for AI memory chips drove prices sharply higher. The detailed results, released on Thursday, October 29, matched the company's earlier forecast and marked its fourth straight quarter of record operating profit.

The world's largest memory chipmaker said revenue likely rose around 127 percent to 195 trillion won, powered by tight supplies of DRAM, NAND and high-bandwidth memory — the chips essential for processing huge amounts of AI data. Samsung said the chip supply shortage would deepen next year, echoing an upbeat outlook from rival SK Hynix, whose strong earnings on Wednesday helped ease market worries that AI-driven chip profits could lose momentum. Samsung also announced a 30 trillion won dividend for the quarter.

Despite the record numbers, Samsung's shares have moved sideways and remain more than 25 percent below their June record high, as investors question whether the AI spending boom can last. Analysts expect profit growth to slow in the fourth quarter as chip price gains ease — but for now, the AI memory boom has delivered the biggest quarterly profit ever reported by a technology company.
