Saudi Envoy Meets Pakistan Army Chief Munir at GHQ, Reviews Makkah Defence Pact Progress

Pakistan Army Chief Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir

Saudi Arabia's newly appointed ambassador to Pakistan, Dr Rajeh Tami Albugamy, met Pakistan's army chief, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, at the General Headquarters in Rawalpindi on Monday to review defence cooperation between the two countries.

According to the military's media wing, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the two discussed matters of mutual interest and the changing regional security situation. Both sides expressed satisfaction with the progress made under the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement and stressed the need to strengthen defence collaboration, institutional links and strategic coordination. Field Marshal Munir congratulated the ambassador on his appointment and said he was confident his tenure would further strengthen the fraternal ties between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, rooted in shared faith, mutual trust and strategic partnership.

The meeting came a day after ISPR Director General Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry said the defence pact's collective deterrence could come into play if diplomatic efforts fail and the regional crisis escalates. In an interview with Independent Arabia, he described the alliance as defensive and not directed against any country, while warning that a wider Middle East conflict is in nobody's interest.
