Sheffield Shield: Konstas Scores 71 and a Century as Bartlett's Five-For Sinks Champions South Australia

Australia's domestic cricket produced a blockbuster day on Wednesday as young gun Sam Konstas announced himself in style — and Queensland's Xavier Bartlett tore through the reigning Sheffield Shield champions. Konstas followed his first-innings 71 with his first Shield century since December at the WACA, reaching 100 off 136 balls, with New South Wales declaring on day three against Western Australia.
The timing could not be better for the 21-year-old opener. Having last worn the baggy green in the Caribbean last year, Konstas is hitting form right as Australia's current openers struggle for runs in South Africa — with a home Test series against New Zealand looming this summer. He went to tea unbeaten on 82, laced with ten fours and two sixes, before completing the milestone as NSW reached 4/155 and a commanding 256-run lead after Western Australia folded for 339.
Elsewhere, Queensland inflicted South Australia's first defeat in more than a year, powered by ODI regular Bartlett's five-wicket haul at Adelaide Oval. And Victorian rising star Harry Hoekstra continued his golden run with nine wickets for the match against Tasmania in Hobart. With the summer fast approaching, the Shield is doing what it does best — throwing up names Australia's selectors cannot ignore.
