Sindh Forms Multi-Agency JIT to Reopen Mir Raza Ali Murder Probe

The Sindh government has formed a multi-agency Joint Investigation Team (JIT) to reopen the murder probe into the death of 25-year-old Karachi businessman Mir Raza Ali, after a judicial commission ruled his death a homicide and described the original police investigation as a serious failure. The JIT will be led by DIG Irfan Ali Baloch and include officers from the Inter-Services Intelligence, the Intelligence Bureau, Sindh Rangers and the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency.

Letters dated October 23 asked the agencies to nominate officers of at least BS-18 rank within seven days, and the team will be authorised to submit the case challan to court. The move follows the report of a single-member judicial commission headed by Sindh High Court Justice Omar Sial, submitted to Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah on October 15. The commission found Mir Raza's death was murder, citing forensic evidence including a perforating firearm injury to the back, after his body was exhumed on August 8 and a final post-mortem was issued around August 31. It pointed to an unusual bullet trajectory, missing blood patterns, acid burns and anaesthesia traces, and said police failures and possible early tampering had damaged public trust.

Mir Raza, an IBA graduate who ran a waffle business, left his PECHS home in the early hours of July 28, and his body was found in bushes in Gulistan-i-Jauhar the next day. The government has also ordered a separate review under Additional IGP Zulfiqar Larak and action against named police and medical officials.
