Sophie Molineux Tops WPL 2027 Auction at Rs 1.10 Crore as UP Warriorz Win Bidding War

Australia captain Sophie Molineux was the biggest buy at the Women's Premier League 2027 auction in Kochi on Wednesday, with UP Warriorz signing the left-arm spin bowling all-rounder for Rs 1.10 crore. Molineux had listed herself at a base price of Rs 50 lakh, but UP Warriorz and defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru pushed the price to Rs 95 lakh in under a minute. UP Warriorz went to Rs 1 crore, RCB answered with Rs 1.05 crore, and UP Warriorz sealed the deal at Rs 1.10 crore. Molineux was part of RCB's title-winning squad in 2024 and missed WPL 2026 with a hip injury, before returning to international cricket against New Zealand.

Delhi Capitals made India batter Kiran Navgire the highest-paid Indian player at Rs 75 lakh, while Gujarat Giants picked up young India wicketkeeper-batter G Kamalini for her base price of Rs 40 lakh. RCB, quiet for the first ten sets, made their first signing in the accelerated round, taking Australian all-rounder Jess Jonassen for Rs 40 lakh. Gujarat Giants also added Ireland seam-bowling all-rounder Orla Prendergast for Rs 30 lakh, and UP Warriorz brought back Grace Harris and Sneh Rana for Rs 30 lakh each.

In total, 25 of the 27 available slots were filled for Rs 6.25 crore. Surprise unsold names included Chamari Athapaththu and Sophia Dunkley, while 15-year-old Karnataka all-rounder Uma Kashvi became the youngest player ever sold at a WPL auction, joining Delhi Capitals for Rs 10 lakh.
