Spy Glasses Now Illegal: Punjab Bans Hidden-Camera Devices to Protect Privacy

Smart glasses with hidden camera

Pakistan's Punjab province has decided to completely ban glasses, pens, watches and other everyday devices fitted with hidden cameras and recording equipment, in one of the region's toughest moves against covert surveillance.

The Punjab Home Department announced on Monday that strict legal action will be taken against the use, purchase and sale of spying equipment and concealed electronic devices. Officials say the decision was driven by growing complaints of illegal surveillance, harassment and blackmail carried out through such gadgets.

"The ban particularly aims to ensure the safety and protection of women and children," the department said, stressing that the illegal use of hidden-camera items would attract strict punishment. The move follows concerns raised in the Lahore High Court over the unregulated sale of camera-equipped smart glasses, including Ray-Ban Meta devices, and the government's stated commitment to safeguarding citizens' privacy and fundamental rights.
