Sri Lanka Chase Down 430 to Beat England in ODI Thriller

Sri Lanka pulled off the second-highest successful run chase in ODI history on Thursday, hunting down a mammoth 430 to beat England by two wickets in the third match of the Pakistan ODI tri-series in Rawalpindi. The game produced 847 runs — the second-highest aggregate in ODI cricket — with a record 123 boundaries struck across the two innings.

England had piled up 429 for 4, the highest ODI total ever on Pakistani soil, powered by Harry Brook's blazing 202 off just 116 balls — the fastest ODI double century in history and the first ever by an England batter, breaking Ben Stokes' national record of 182. Joe Root made 69 and Will Jacks smashed 66 not out off 30. But Sri Lanka chased it down with Pavan Rathnayake's 130, Avishka Fernando's 97, a 50-ball 97 from Dasun Shanaka and Janith Liyanage's unbeaten 61 off 27, sealed with a six off the penultimate ball. Only South Africa's famous 435 chase against Australia in 2006 stands above it.
