Sri Lanka vs England Score: Sri Lanka Chase 430 to Beat England by 2 Wickets in ODI Epic

Pavan Rathnayake celebrates his century in the Sri Lanka vs England ODI

RAWALPINDI — Sri Lanka pulled off the second-highest successful run chase in ODI history on Thursday, stunning England by two wickets in a 430-run epic at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.

Chasing 430 after Harry Brook's record-breaking double century, Sri Lanka reached 430 for 8 with just one ball to spare. Pavan Rathnayake led the chase with a brilliant 130 off 106 balls, while Avishka Fernando and Dasun Shanaka both fell agonisingly short of centuries on 97. Shanaka's 97 came off only 50 balls with eight sixes. Janith Liyanage finished unbeaten on 61 off 27 balls, smashing the winning six off the penultimate delivery.

Brook had earlier smashed 202 off 116 balls — the fastest double century in ODI history and the first ever by an England batter. His knock, featuring 21 fours and 10 sixes, powered England to 429 for 4, the biggest total ever scored on Pakistan soil. Joe Root supported with 69 and became the first England player to cross 8,000 ODI runs. Josh Tongue (3 for 79) nearly turned the finale back England's way with two wickets in the final over, but Liyanage held his nerve. The win gives Sri Lanka their first points of the Pakistan ODI tri-series and hands England a second straight defeat.
