Tatum Scores 40 and Hits Overtime Buzzer-Beater as Celtics Beat Nets 125-124

Jayson Tatum buried a 17-foot jumper at the overtime buzzer to cap a 40-point night as the Boston Celtics beat the Brooklyn Nets 125-124 on Tuesday night for their third straight victory. It was Tatum's first buzzer-beater since returning from a torn right Achilles suffered during the 2025 NBA Playoffs, and his first 40-point game since the injury.
The finish was as dramatic as it gets. Brooklyn rookie Mikel Brown Jr. hit a tying three-pointer with 0.2 seconds left in regulation to force overtime, and the Nets led 124-123 late in the extra period. But with 2.3 seconds remaining, Derrick White inbounded to Tatum, who took two dribbles against Brown and sank the winner as time expired. Tatum finished 10 of 20 from the field and made a career-high 18 free throws on 22 attempts, adding eight assists and five rebounds.
Paul George added 20 points for Boston, while Michael Porter Jr. led Brooklyn with 27 points and 12 rebounds and Julius Randle scored 24. The Nets fell to 0-4, while the Celtics, who have not lost since blowing a 22-point lead in their season opener, now look ahead to Friday's NBA Cup game at home against Chicago.
