Tesla Q3 2026 Earnings: $28.05B Revenue In Line, EPS Beats as Profit Falls 43%

Tesla reported third-quarter 2026 revenue of $28.05 billion after the market closed on Wednesday, essentially flat from a year ago and in line with the $28.06 billion Wall Street expected. Non-GAAP earnings of $0.48 per share beat the $0.45 consensus — but GAAP net income plunged 43% to $787 million as the company poured money into AI and robotics.
Margins recovered from a dismal second quarter: total gross margin rose to 19.6% and operating margin improved to 2.6% from 1.4%, though operating income still fell 56% to $718 million. Operating expenses jumped 39% to $4.78 billion, with R&D alone up 69% to $2.76 billion on what Tesla now calls "Super Intelligence," the Optimus robot and the Cybercab. Free cash flow came in at $1.53 billion, and Tesla ended the quarter with $45.4 billion in cash.
The bright spots were software and autonomy: active FSD subscriptions hit 1.74 million, up 67%, and Tesla's Robotaxi service passed nearly 2 million cumulative unsupervised miles, a month after the Cybercab joined the Austin fleet. Tesla also delivered its 10 millionth vehicle. Management faces investors on the earnings call at 5:30 p.m. ET.
