Tesla Wins in Seoul Court as FSD Refund Lawsuit Is Rejected

A South Korean court has rejected a lawsuit by dozens of Tesla owners who sought full refunds for the company's Full Self-Driving software, handing the electric carmaker a significant legal victory. The Seoul Central District Court ruled on Thursday, October 29, against the owners, who argued they had paid for a system that was never delivered as promised.
The court found that the Full Self-Driving option did not promise a car capable of driving itself entirely without human intervention. Instead, judges treated the purchase as an open-ended agreement under which extra features would arrive as technology advanced and regulators gave approval — and buyers had known some functions could take considerable time. Tesla had already supplied basic Autopilot and Enhanced Autopilot functions, the court noted, and a recent software update added traffic-light and sign recognition plus city-driving capability to older cars fitted with Hardware 3 computers.
The owners, who filed the case in 2024, said Tesla Korea had been selling the option since around March 2017 without delivering the full system in South Korea. Tesla did not immediately comment on the ruling, which comes as the company faces similar legal challenges in other countries over self-driving claims long associated with chief executive Elon Musk.
