Trump Ordered to Testify Under Oath by Dec 11 in $10 Billion BBC Defamation Case

A federal judge has ordered President Donald Trump to sit for a deposition under oath by December 11 in his $10 billion defamation lawsuit against the BBC — warning that the case could be dismissed if he refuses. U.S. Magistrate Judge Enjoliqué Lett issued the order in Miami on Thursday after the BBC's lawyers complained that Trump kept delaying his testimony.
The two sides had agreed to an October 16 deposition, but Trump canceled it, citing a "matter of national importance." The BBC's attorney, Charles Tobin, told the court that Trump was actually campaigning in Georgia that day, saying he was "participating in party politics and prioritized that over sitting for the deposition."
Trump is suing the BBC over a Panorama documentary that spliced together parts of his January 6, 2021 speech. The broadcaster has apologized for the misleading edit but denies it defamed the president. Discovery in the case closes on December 18.
Judge Lett also rejected Trump's attempt to block a video recording of the seven-hour deposition. The ruling sets up a high-stakes December showdown — with the president's $10 billion case on the line if he doesn't show up.
