Trump Warns US May Have 'No Choice but to Leave' Europe Over Migration

Trump Warns US May Have

US President Donald Trump has warned that America may have "no choice but to leave" Europe if its leaders fail to change course on migration and defence cooperation, in his sharpest threat yet against NATO allies.

Speaking at a campaign rally in Park City, Kansas, on Monday night, Trump told the crowd: "We stand with Europe despite its flaws, its weaknesses, and hopefully its temporary loss of direction – but if they don't soon find their way, we will have no choice but to leave."

The warning came as he attacked European governments over riots in France, which he blamed on mass migration, claiming he had told French President Emmanuel Macron to close his country's borders "a long time ago." He also accused NATO allies of refusing American requests for help on Iran, saying the US spends "hundreds of billions of dollars a year on NATO protecting them" but got a "no, thank you" when it asked for support.

Trump was interrupted by hecklers five times during the speech, at one point claiming the protesters had been paid. The rally is part of a Republican push ahead of the November 3 midterm elections, with heavy spending on Senate races in Kansas, Nebraska and Iowa.
