Uber Puts All 30,000 Employees on ChatGPT Work in Expanded OpenAI Deal

Uber and OpenAI have expanded their partnership, with the ride-hailing giant rolling out ChatGPT Work — OpenAI's enterprise AI agent — to its entire global workforce of around 30,000 employees.

The company first piloted the tool with 1,000 staff earlier this year before scaling up. Around 80 percent of those early users were not engineers, Uber's VP of engineering Sumanth Sukumar told TechCrunch, with teams using the agent to analyze complex operations data, localize training materials for different markets and build personalized dashboards.

ChatGPT Work was introduced in July as an AI agent corporate teams can deploy across everyday workflows. Uber says it is deliberately leaving room for experimentation rather than dictating exactly how employees should use it — earlier this year it paired 30 AI engineers with teams across the company for two-week “AI pods” to automate key parts of their jobs.

The move is one of the largest enterprise AI rollouts to date and signals how aggressively big companies are betting on AI agents to reshape office work.
