UK Budget: Healey to Give Two State Lenders £20.4 Billion Boost, Backing 100,000 Jobs by 2035

British finance minister John Healey is expected to announce £20.4 billion ($27.3 billion) of additional support for the state's business lender and infrastructure bank in his budget on Wednesday, the Treasury has confirmed. The package will give £15.4 billion more to the National Wealth Fund and £5 billion more to the British Business Bank over roughly half a decade.
"This additional capital will help more British businesses fulfil their potential, while getting investment behind the industries, infrastructure and places that create good jobs and drive lasting growth across the country," a Treasury spokesperson said. The funding is expected to support around 100,000 jobs by 2035 in sectors including artificial intelligence, defence and green energy.
The plan was first reported by the Financial Times and later confirmed by the Treasury. It lands days before Wednesday's budget, as the government tries to show it can lift growth and create jobs without breaking its fiscal rules. For small firms struggling to raise money and for big infrastructure projects waiting for backing, the two state lenders are becoming central to Britain's growth strategy — and Wednesday's announcement will show just how much firepower they will have.
