Vincent Kompany Released From Hospital After Collapse at Bayern Training

Bayern Munich head coach Vincent Kompany has been released from hospital, five days after collapsing at the club’s training ground. Sporting director Max Eberl confirmed the news on Wednesday, calling it “the biggest and best news for all of us.”
Kompany, 40, collapsed on Friday, October 23, while watching Bayern’s second team train, and was taken to hospital for tests. Doctors have now diagnosed meningeal irritation — an inflammation of the membranes protecting the brain and spinal cord. He had already been unwell with a viral infection earlier in the week and missed some media duties, though he still led the team in its 2-2 Champions League draw with Arsenal.
There is no date yet for Kompany’s return: he will rest, take medication and come back only after medical clearance, with assistant Aaron Danks continuing in charge. Bayern beat Magdeburg 6-1 in the German Cup on Wednesday night without him, and the Bundesliga leaders face title rivals Borussia Dortmund on Saturday.
