World Series Game 1 Final Score: Brewers Beat Rays 3-2 as Megill Survives Ninth-Inning Drama

The Milwaukee Brewers beat the Tampa Bay Rays 3-2 in Game 1 of the 2026 World Series on Friday night at American Family Field, surviving a chaotic ninth inning to take a 1-0 lead in the best-of-seven Fall Classic. It was Milwaukee's first World Series win since 1982 — a gap of 16,077 days — and both clubs are still chasing their first championship.

Milwaukee struck immediately. Jackson Chourio led off the bottom of the first with a single, Christian Yelich lined an RBI triple into the right-centre gap, and William Contreras singled Yelich home for a 2-0 lead. Brewers ace Jacob Misiorowski, who opened the game with a 103.5 mph fastball, the fastest pitch ever thrown in a World Series, allowed one run over five innings. Tampa Bay pulled one back in the fourth when Junior Caminero doubled and scored on a Liam Hicks groundout, but Chourio's RBI single in the seventh, scoring Cooper Pratt, restored a two-run cushion at 3-1.

The ninth delivered the drama. Closer Trevor Megill loaded the bases with one out, and Hicks appeared to ground into a game-ending double play — fireworks went off and the Brewers began celebrating — only for replay to overturn the call at second, with Pratt ruled to have come off the bag. A run scored to make it 3-2 with runners on second and third, but Megill regrouped and struck out Jonny DeLuca on a knuckle curve to end it. Game 2 is on Saturday night in Milwaukee, with Logan Henderson starting for the Brewers against Rays ace Drew Rasmussen.
