Zelensky Says Ukraine Would Accept Peace Deal Freezing the Front Lines

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Wednesday he would accept a peace deal with Russia that freezes the war along its current front lines, calling it “a real way to end this war.” Speaking on Fox News’ Fox & Friends, Zelensky was asked whether he would accept an agreement that freezes everything where it is, with Ukraine keeping 75 percent or more of its territory.

“Yes, right now we have to freeze,” Zelensky responded. “We call it a ceasefire — or, as President Trump says, stop the killing. Freeze and stop.” He said a freeze is “the minimum of what we need from Russia today,” after which Ukraine would ask President Trump and European leaders for security guarantees — “the most important” part of any deal. He refused to give up the Donbas outright, calling that “not fair” and saying Russian forces are “not winning on the battlefield.”

The interview came as US special envoy Steve Witkoff shuttled between the two sides: he met Zelensky in Oslo on Tuesday, then Vladimir Putin in St. Petersburg on Wednesday. The Kremlin said Putin will review Washington’s proposals, and Trump said a deal to end the war may be the closest it has ever been — even as Kyiv came under fresh Russian missile strikes hours later.
